10 IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU MOVE INTO A NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD - KUBWA INCLUSIVE

In our journey of Rural-Urban, Urban-Urban, Urban-Rural or Rural -Rural migration, we are faced with learning different new ways and places of doing old things or entirely new things that comes with this new movement. Sometimes, settling into a new neighborhood can be a challenge. For some, it may take a few days or weeks while for others, even a year isn't enough.

We have put together 10 things we think can make it very much easier to master this new terrain in little or no time.No.6 will really interest you.

1. THE NEAREST MARKET OR SHOPPING MALL
You or your household will need supplies, especially in the next few days. spoons, towels, padlocks, footmat, soaps, slippers, iron sponge, hangers, toilet rolls, even phone chargers. You can take a "window" walk aorund to see which are closest to your new home or residence. You can also ask a neighbor to recommend any but you can view others as you stroll or drive there.

2. HOSPITAL OR CLINIC
No one prays to get sick except boarding house students who have determined they must go home at particular weekends. It will be good to know the closest hospitals, general hospitals, clinics etc. Not just for yourself, but you could be helping someone else in an emergency situation and this knowledge will come in handy.

3. SCHOOLS
This is one major "waka" you will have to do if you have started replenishing the earth. You can ask for help from neighbours as well. You can also ask "oga google" and zoom in to get contact numbers of the schools and even place calls before visiting. It could save you a great deal of blind searches. It will be funny to go to a school just to find out it is an all boys school when it is your daughter you want to enrol

4. POLICE STATION
This is not always for you to go and report your new, landlord or a tenant that will come back at 1:00am and be banging the gate like you are his gateman. Knowing the police station or post can help in the case of danger or impending danger, to report a case or "guess
where the police took him or her to after they picked  everybody that was standing at the junction when it happened". You can also know where to go to consult incase you need special security for your event or something. get the police contact or emmergency numbers is available.

5. BARBING OR HAIRDRESSING SALOON
The hairdressing salon should have come first right? Anyways, these are places you will most likely frequently visit So the earlier you start knowing them and how they render their services, the better. Recommendations from the few neighbours you may initially trust their judgment could be of help before you settle in completely or find your own "customer".

6. CHURCH OR PLACE OF WORSHIP
WOW, you don't wanna go on a spiritual vacation just because you relocated. Long before the weekend, you can take a walk around to find your branch or a new place of worship or prayers. You can also ask "oga google" if you know how to ask him very well.

7. GARDEN OR RECREATION SPOTS, PLAYGROUNDS
You may need to chill out from the unpacking things and more. Walk or ask around to see nice spots or areas and even compare prices so they don't do you "JJC" and give you fried banana instead of dodo.

8. TRASH DISPOSAL
Oh yeah, from your first day here, you will be already producing "rubbish", I mean, garbage. Where and how to get them off your neck or nose shouldn't overtake you. Ask around, walk around, observe around to know how trash is dealt with in this new terrain before Environmental sanitation people use your face to do their next flyer.

9. BUS STATIONS OR STOPS OR MOTOR PARKS
Whether you drive or not, you will need this. You may want to send mama iyabo's cooler back to her in Ebonyi State, you will need to go to a park to do that. Your nephew came to help during the holidays and now needs to take a bus to Kano, don't wait till that morning to start searching for where the park is located else, those park gurus will use you and your relative to test their new route. If you inquire days before, you may just be amazed there is one right after that turn, 10 mins walk away from your house or area.

10. THIS ONE HAS BEEN LEFT FOR YOU TO ADD.
When you get to your new place, you can even find what the older neighbors didn't know existed around there - a 24 hours supermarket, a Mai Chai joint that closes at 3:00am, etc...when you find such, share with them also...
